Hi all

I have a software/network consulting company and would like to sell key systems. I've sold some used ones in the past. Which manufacturer is willing to deal with a smaller dealer? Avaya wanted a $100k/year commitment.

You do know that you don't have to buy from the big boys don't you. There are places that you can get new equipment for just about any system. But if you are going to install them you better have techs that know there stuff because you won't get tech support. But hey thats what we are here for.
Posted By: getwiredbymitch Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/14/02 04:34 PM
In terms of getting good solid tech support. I sell the NEC/NITSUKO DS1000/2000 systems. They work great and the support is superb. When I call, the hold time is about 1 minute. Try to get tech support from Panasonic!!!!

The Partner Systems are simple to put in, the Magix is tricky if you are new. Good luck and welcome to the interconnect business.... Be careful there are a lot of people out there putting in systems and marking up the equipment a few bucks and providing no support. BUY REFURBISHED....

I didn't mean that you can't get tech support, the people you buy from will usually support you, I meant that you won't get it from the major companies.

getwiredbymitch,I thought you where a Toshiba man?
Posted By: getwiredbymitch Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/15/02 04:41 AM
NEC/NITSUKO "DS1000/2000" - AVAYA "Merlin & Partner" - INTERTEL "Old Systems" (GMX-GLX-GX152D) - PANASONIC "not often" - TOSHIBA "my favorite"

I will service & install anything that brings in a PAYCHECK!!!!!

The biggest worry I have is warranty returns. I am fine figuring anything out on my own, but if I buy an Avaya system from a gray market dealer that disappears in 2 months, how do I handle the warranty?
Does Graybar carry Avaya systems?
Posted By: dtmf Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/15/02 08:09 AM
Most resale houses will give you the same warranty, I've had a few go bad and got them replaced at no cost. Refurb is a different story, about only 3-6 months is all they will give you. Just be sure the cust. knows that it is refurbed. As a rule if it is in good shape it won't go bad from normal use. If you build a good relation with a resaler they will take care of you.
I don't think that Graybar sells AVAYA

Try Target Distributing in Rockville Maryland. EXCELLENT - ALWAYS HAS PRODUCTS!!!

I have had problems with Graybar. Alltel is OK, when they have the item!!

Metroline in Michigan is a good refurb house for AVAYA, also ATLANTEL in Georgia. These companyies have been around awhle. DONT BUY FROM TELQUEST in FAIRFIELD, NJ..GREY MARKET ITEMS!!!!!!!

Talk with Inter-Tel https://www.inter-tel.com/intertel/...c/PublicHomePage&_webrRoot=/intertel

or ESI https://www.esi-estech.com/about.html they both have partner plains and are good products.

Good Luck!!

Personaly, I've had 1 refurb card that lost one it's 16 circuts. I've had 2 brand new cards do the same thing and some phones that went T.U. as well.
So I've had better luck with the refurb stuff (Inter-Tel Axxess... got most of the refurb stuff from Sundance.)
Great system to work with though. Self taught on this one. Played a little bit with Executone too.
Posted By: Sam French Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/20/02 01:48 PM
I am just started too. Executone had some good stuff. Nortel has some good stuff. Toshiba is VERY GOOD but pain to program and no fun dealingn with the toshiba company. I REALLY like the lucent partner. Might not be as fancy as the
others but has so many built in features and is easy to get stuff for. Yeah I would'nt rely on graybar too much for phone stuff.
Posted By: djweis Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/20/02 02:38 PM
I've worked with the Toshiba reseller here in town and some work with the systems. The systems didn't seem too bad. One reason I liked the Partners is that you can hook up POTS devices with no additional hardware.

Would anyone have some glossy brochures that I could buy/beg off of them? I'll cover shipping. :-)

Hey Sam, just curious you said Toshiba is a pain to program. I think its one of the easiest. The only thing i hate is that when you add a card you have to recycle the system. A real pain when you have 3 cabinets hooked up. Any of you guys wanna check out a nice little system, NEC DS1000/2000. easy to program, their vm intergrates nice and tech support is super.

Hey Mitch I just could'nt hang with the programing of Toshiba. They make some GOOD stuff. I am just a computer geek trying to be a wannabe phone guy.
Posted By: Z-man Re: Advice for new Interconnect? - 12/20/02 08:52 PM
I can get anyone the Partner brochures in PDF format. You can print them on a color printer and they look really good. Get used to making your own slicks, because companies are cutting back the freebees or charging you flat out.

Just met with the Samsung guy in my area ---and this week he came up to help with a customer proposal/information. Like what I see.

NEC DS is a good easy starter with a lot of growth.

My $.02.

Well, Graybar I think sells some systems, that would get you out of any commitment. So does Sprint North Supply. The only company I have heard of with no or minimal requirements on equipment is ESI.

If I could give some advice to someone new in this business (the topic of this thread, right?) it would be to offer maitenance plans right from the beginning. You can triple your profits by doing so.

This is going to vary a little by the brand or brands you sell (reliability, long term cost and availablity of parts). Also, stay away from lessor available brands and your costs will remain lower (due to supply and demand and competition between the repair houses). Last, specialize in 1 or 2 brands only! Too many firms try to sell too many lines, and your profitability gets killed in too much inventory, too much tech training, too much headache trying to keep things straght!

About service plans: I own an interconnect in Idaho and have a very healthy in house maintenance plan. A few years ago I wrote a manual to help other interconnect owners do the same thing. That turned into seminars, which turned in to speaking engagements for North American Telcom Dealers, NEC, Winn Communications, and others. In the last 5 years I have trained over 1000 interconnect owners on the subject of starting and running an in house maitenance program on the small phone systems they sell. And most firms can triple there profits by doing so. In fact, if you are not offering a plan you are leaving most of the profit on the table.

I have a flyer I would be happy to fax to you regarding my manual. If you have any interest, please email me your fax number and I'll have my office fax you this 2 page flyer. (We won't sell or use your fax number for any thing else).

Take care, and if I can help or answer any questions, please contact me.

The Reason for the Samsung suggestion was that they Also do what you do and are a valuable resource for a startup interconnect they also offer classes to build on your performance and income stream

I am a small interconnect and when I needed to get a leg up the people over there were very helpful.

I'm glad it looks good for you KLD if you need anything look us up I'm more than happy to help
