(I wish I could attach a print screen)

We had a power failure last week. Afterwards, we thought everything came back up OK, but it has now become apparent that something is wrong.

All our incomin calls dump to a STAR. There's no audio played initially, the STAR does some routing for us and the first voice the caller will hear is a human being.

Since that day, the first sound heard is a horrible squeal (similar to a fax tone but continuous.) Once the call rings into a hunt group, the squeal stops.

If the call was a DID to a DND station, the squeal starts immediately and never stops, because the entire call is being processed on the VPU. The sqeal is the only sound heard, it's not just a noise over top of the normal audio prompts and recordings.

AvdapMon says:
call to app 2503 from [cell phone number here] for X360
VMAIL1 -NAS360]Set gain to 1
RHET1 ]Playing <db/rcrdings/14.424>
EMAILDLV]Finished downloading messages
EMAILDLV]No new messages - <MAPIFindNex rc=17.
VMAIL1-NS360]Audio term <rec>: PHYEVENT_silence
VMAIL1-NS360]Digital term <play>: PHYEVENT_disconnect

I'm not afraid of this thing, but most of what I know of it I learned here! I'm safe and happy in the monitor where I'm only looking at it, but I will need pretty clear steps to take action to resolve.

This is just a stab, but look at your CO Trunk Groups and check your Audio on Transf and Audio on Hold. If set to MOH, perhaps change to silence or tick tones to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for quick response. That has no effect on the problem.

If you log in through the Admin box as if to re-record one of your custom recordings, are those recordings in tact? Also, can do you hear any announcement when dialing an AA application number from within the office?

Also, I can add, during the time that the monitor says it's recording, but the user is hearing noise, even trying to leave a messages results in a blank "no message left." We have forward only setting sending voice mail by email gateway. That works, but no message is taken by the system nor would the caller have any way to guess when to start talking.

Andrea,

When logging in through Admin box, must rely on the screen prompts. The system is otherwise, utterly silent, when contacting from inside including dialing the numbers of the applications.

The phone tech who set it up for us, has finally responded to email. Suggests a cold boot because the squealing he's only heard a couple times in 14 years, and was solved with a cold boot. Tried that to no avail.

(I'm really not trying to set the forum and this fellow up as dueling techs - but we are a telephone-based business providing IT tech support by telephone to our customers, so I'm pretty anxious to get it up and running right again.)

Could I have a bad card of some type in that voice mail box, after having taken a power failure last week. It was preceded by a voltage spike which may have exceeded the capabilies of the UPS its plugged into.

Never mind for now. The hardware is failing. One of my techs is looking at the PC itself, as we've discovered it doesn't boot up reliably now.

Solved. My hardware tech cleaned and reseated all the cards in the vmail box, because he could see it was booting but just had stopped showing anything on video. We also made sure the cable was connected between the phone switch and the Vmail machine, as that had been pulled at some point (why do people unplug things?), and all is well again.
