Hello,
I am just helping out a friend who semi-manages a Shoretel system. They wanted incoming calls to ring a horn so we put an SPA112 and a Viking PA-2A system and it works perfectly. The question now is can they use the same equipment for paging? They no longer need the ringing over speakers. I believe the PA-2A would have to be able to pick up the call in order to initiate a page OR the SPA112 opens up a talk path immediately. Any thoughts?

I am pretty sure that the Pa-2A won't answer an incoming call and go off-hook. It has trunk port inputs, which means that it is not expecting ring voltage and can't answer an incoming call. To be able to use the trunk port, you would need an FXO instead of an FXS. I am not sure that this would work either because the Shoretel may not seize the trunk line through SIP. If the SPA112 could auto answer it MAY work if you set the PA-2A input to be a paging port, but I have a feeling that it wont. I don't think this will work with the equipment you have in hand. There is a lot of other SIP paging adapters. Otherwise you may need to replace the PA-2A with a device designed to handle an incomine ringing call. Looking at the Viking website it looks like the FXI-1 may work. https://www.vikingelectronics.com/product-details.php?pid=568I have never used this specific device, but it looks like it is designed to auto answer an incooming call.

Pins 5 & 6 are for a paging port or trunk. You should be able to hook right up to that.

Analog Ports in a Group and have a BCA on some phones or Hunt group etc, depending how your calls are coming in, I do know at https://www.syn-apps.com/. has some awesome Paging and and other School Apps that work with Shoretel that we have used for ringing , you can definetley do what newtecky said as an option because there is a "Night Bell" extension in programing under SItes , Just my 2 cents
