It is known that collectors use what they call "skip tracing" to collect unresolved bills. I get it. With a name like Alberstein, if my cousin Naomi flakes on a credit card, they may try to reach her through ME (she doesn't live with me, my dad or anyone else in the family next to her). The question is, where does the National "Do Not Call List" and things like individual collections blur the lines? I dunno myself. Anybody here make headway on this nonsense?

I'm not sure how collection agencies have any grounds to contact you unless your name appears on the account (s) in question.

First off, there 2 distinct types of collections. One being from a collection agency and the second from a debt buyer. The former is regulated under FDCPA and the latter is not. In any event, you are not obligated to provide any sort or kind of information regarding the person/s in question. Once you make it known that you are not the intended target and the intended target does not reside with you, that's the end of conversation. If they call back they're in FDCPA violation and open to litigation and fines. If they are a debt buyer all bets are off. Tell them to wait while you connect a recording device! Better yet, let the answering machine screen your calls!!
