I tried to get an address of XXX.YYY.ZZZ.164 with subnet of 255.255.255.248 and gateway of XXX.YYY.ZZZ.161 in the CIX100 and an address of XXX.YYY.ZZZ.165 with subnet of 255.255.255.248 and gateway of XXX.YYY.ZZZ.161 to communicate with each other. They are connected with a cross over cable and I can ping the .164 address from the lap top but emanager will not connect.

If I change the ip addresses to the normal 192.168.254.253 in the CIX and 192.168.254.50 in the lap top they connect without a problem.

The CIX has the latest release software from Toshiba and emanager has the latest software release from Toshiba installed.

Any ideas from the gurus out there

Hmmm.... This is a stumper. You shouldn't even need a gateway since those addresses are in the same subnet. You can ping so you have connectivity. The only thing I can think of would be a firewall on the PC. NEM uses UDP ports 161, 162 (SNMP)and TCP ports 20,21 (FTP). I have installed these using many different IP schemes and never had this issue.

For kicks you might try temporarily disabling any firewall, malware protection, or antivirus to see if maybe those programs are blocking communication. All things being equal, this should work fine.

That's weird. I was able to connect to your system right away through the internet! I didn't actually think you would post your actual IP address to your system.

If you want to keep it out there on the Internet, I would suggest that you at least change your community name to something other then the default (and store it in a safe place).

I would also say, replace edit your message and replace the first 3 octets with XXXs. We can still get the idea with the last digits and subnet mask. I understand that you were showing that it was a public IP vs a private IP.

As far as the original question, just a guess but maybe there was another device on the public IP that had an IP address of XXX.XXX.XXX.165, and the ARP info in the CIX is just a little confused. Normally devices will learn the new MAC address of an IP address press quickly. You may want to try a few more times after a while, or try an IP of X.X.X.166

Thank you for the helpful ideas. The phone system is just in my office on the test bench so exposure to the Internet is not a big deal but if you were able to connect to it as was a Toshiba tech in Vancouver then it has to be a network issue of some type. I also tried to get to it from my home computer with no luck. Guess I need to dig into the firewalls etc which I thought were all disabled

I wish it was this easy to connect to all my customers, so I would not have to use dial-up. :-)

@ newtecky - I agree. I LOVE the customers we have where the IT staff is competent enough to allow and set up port forwarding in their routers. NEM is great over a decent internet connection.
