well ive been playing with asterisk now for a couple of weeks, set up 2 boxes at separate sites and been using the softphone to test, im quite impressed. thanks for the advice ive gotten so far!

Been doing so also over here in Ireland
have an ATCOM on the test bench and a ZYCOO
like them for a basic system for someone who wants to use SIP trunks with the SIP and built in voice mail they are great value for money pitched against lets say a samsung officeserv 7030 were would have to licence voice mail,sip trunks MGI etc Asterisk out of the box are a fraction of the cost but dont expect to be able to do as much with it !!

well the flavor ive been using is freepbx, i got the local Aastra rep to send over a couple of phones, different models. got the BLF working, got a sip trunk in today to test, very impressive!

Browze around for add-ons. It is astounding what sort of reliable freeware is available.
