and then back on again. When it's on, it shows more or less the correct screen, and when the operator extension is off-hook, identification of incoming calls, and extension status on the directory pane, but then it will just go blank and start redrawing the screen. It seems to do this randomly between 20 and 30 seconds of showing the correct display.

The console is at 9600baud connected via the RS-422 port over Cat-5 cable. It had been working well for at least 2 years, but this Saturday it started with the blanking/redrawing routine.

Our spare operator console does the same thing, and neither console will blank/redraw when within the setup menu, so it's not graphics subsystem itself.

When either of the consoles is reset to full defaults from the setup menu, it displays the correct image until the next redraw. Additionally, incoming calls or other changes in status don't seem to trigger this event, it's just more or less random.

Anyone have ideas?

What Port is it on?

Do you have anything on the Other port?
Try swapping to that port....

Is this the Terminal screen, a Wise dummy terminal?
If it is, it's probally going out, very common.

It's wired to the RS-422 (Port #3) on the MDF I/O panel. Nothing else is wired to that I/O port.

It's an official Executone operator terminal (p/n 40017.) This one and our "spare" operator terminal do the same thing (the "spare" is actually one with a bad overscan, so it's hard to read. But it also exhibits the same strange redraw condition.)

I'm beginning to wonder if it's the Cat5 from the phoneroom. I haven't yet tried it on port 4, but I'm not sure if 4 is also an RS-422 port or not.

Well if you want to rule the cabling out just take it back to the mdf panel and see what it does there. You either got a bad i/o port or a cabling problem by the sound of it.
Does it display a proper screen when the help key is pressed?

Come to think of it, port 4 may also be RS-422, as I think it also has a 5-conductor spot on the 66 panel...

Yes, the "Help" screen and the Setup screens all display properly, so it surely is a communications issue... I guess hooking it directly to the port in the morning before we open is the best troubleshooting method I have (and thought about doing that with the spare, anyway...) I just dread running another 200+ cable to the receptionist's desk, so was hoping I hadn't missed anything.

There are 2 RS422 ports as well as 2 RS232 ports. However to be an operator port requires it to be assigned as one on the B screen and the the O screen for operators. If its not assigned as an operator port then it will work as a programming port.

No luck getting the spare to work on Port 4.

Code
Operator Programming „

 Operator B Extension **** Port * Integrated CRT Y FNCT keys=Departments N
Display Extn Names N Allow Conference N Page All Zones Y
TMC OPTION N ANI OPTION N Unscreened Transfer N
                RLS No Auto Ans N

When I went to the Port field, and entered 4, it went back to the asterisk, even after defining a valid extension as the B operator.

On the B screen, under ports, I set Port 4 to Y, 9600, but it still wouldn't allow me to choose port 4 for Operator B.

By then, it was after 8:30 so I didn't want to take the main operator terminal offline to test directly on port 3. Maybe tomorrow...

Check also on the B screen for ports P.See if port 4 is setup for something and make sure it is installed.

As per my previous message, yes, on the B screen under ports, I set port 4 as installed and set the baud rate at 9600.
