I have got a 400+' cable pull coming up. I was wondering what would be the best kind of cable to use since cat5 will not quite cut it. thanks for the feedback.

What service are you putting across the cable? Analog dialtone? T1?

What Kyle said.

If it's T-1, run 2, 1 pr 22AWG Shielded cables.

If it's Analog DT, run Cat3.

If it's PA, run stranded speaker wire.

If it's a Data/Lan type connection you'll probably want to run fiber.

Let us know what you're trying to do.

The run is gonna be for 2 or 3 computers. I believe there are a few turns, but should not be to bad. Should be in conduit as well.

Well CAT anything copper isn't going to work now is it. You are talking fiber.

Have you considered wireless? Other wise, you're going to have a serious distance problem with 400+ feet. Have you actually measured it? If you haven't, it will be either 200 feet smile , or 600 feet frown . Sounds to me like if wireless is out, you need to set a hub about halfway!

You'd be able to get away with copper for under 328 feet, but 400 feet is pushing your luck. I'd run fiber and use a pair of media converters to make the transition to copper at each end.
