I've started to see more problems with Linksys switches & routers lately, such as not passing VoIP and flaky ports. Has anyone else noticed any problems compared to other brands like Netgear or Dlink?

I have a new D-link wireless router that works great, but I recently picked up a Linksys wireless access point that I can't get to work at all. My previous Linksys router crapped out after about a year.

Now, I am no IT man by any stretch of the imagination, so the access point may not be working because I don't know what I am doing. The router just died, as in dead ports, one at a time over about a month.

I had a linksys router for a while but it had flaky ports on it too. I have since switched to a Netgear wireless/wired router that I have had zero problems with since I put it in. The wireless part is fast, and the ports on it are even faster!

I've had a Linksys wireless Super-G for a little over a year now. It runs three computers directly to the ethernet ports and the other port runs an eight port hub. Also have two laptops that hook up to it wirelessly. All have been working fine together. Internet access through Roadrunner however, is sometimes spotty.

I don't think the roadrunner problem has anything to do with the Linksys. I believe it is a problem with TW's IAD.

i originally had a linksys at home. wired was great. wireless would lock up if i tried to transfer 1gb of files via the wireless.

next i had a dlink. for some reason it would just reboot at random.

now i have a linksys again (wrt54g). but i re-flashed it to have a linux os instead of the linksys. MUCH better. more stable. can do tons of stuff with it now. can tag voip packets for priority. all kinds of stuff!

you can read about the basic stuff here:
https://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3562391

here's a link to an open source project:
https://openwrt.org/

this is what i'm currently running:
https://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php

of course there are more:
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=linksys+wrt54g+linux&btnG=Google+Search

it's not for the faint of heart. you can brick your router!

there is also a project that promotes free wireless where you can get a router for next to nothing (you're supposed to belong to their group in order to be able to use it)...... but it's a good, cheap router that you can hack on if needed. https://www.fon.com
they used to offer linksys wrt54g routers but they are now offering something else. looks like a buffalo (which can also be hacked) laugh laugh

The only noticable problems we have had over the past few months are with the pre-N crap. Both Linksys and Netgear have been sent back more than once. But this is only problemmatic on the wireless side so probably does not confirm any of your suspicions.
