we just had 8 pots line switched to a fractional T1
Partof the T1 is used for data and part is
used for the same 8 numbers. Although the
switch will support T1 with a card the client had SBC/Ameritech put in a CSU and channel bank. They told him they are providing the same tone to the RJ 21 as the POTS was and he wouldn't have to call us,(insde vender) for
anything.Ever since the change there getting dropped calls and ghost ringing on various CO lines. SBC told him everything on their end is OK and the problem is with the switch.
(Big surprise) I could sure use some opinions
Thanks, WaM

i to have had the same issues things i have learned are:1.don't trust the provider, too many cooks stirring the pot. unless you tell them exactly where to look it is not in their best interest to spend valuable man hours chasing a problem which may not be there at all or will change with the next software revision.(not much help here)
things you can control are make sure all unused cabling from co demarc is disconnected. chances are good to exellent that the co is the source of your "ghost ringing"

Its to bad the panasonic doesnt have timers to adjust for the CO lines. You are probably going to have to call panasonic tech support and ask them what the milliamp voltages should be on the CO lines during conversations and at idle. Then get your meter and compare. The system was working fine until the channel bank replaced the pots lines.

Well thanks guys, that's kind of what I figured.
I can see I'm going to have to work with the providers and waste a lot of time holding there hand. I would like to see my clients bills as he claims he's saving a lot of money in the long run. I can't see him saving that much.
This is a pretty good link. I'm not sure if the reply will recognize it, you may have to type it in. we'll get it somehow, there has to be some kind of adjustment or filters.
Thanks again, I'll keep you posted.

I do a lot of travel to report issues to Service providers. It does not take very long to get results after your customer send's your bill to said provider.
This phantom ring is almost always the channel bank. If it is a TELCO it may be a defective ring gen.

OK, I have a little more Info. It's a fractional T1 coming in on
one pair of an old 50 pair IT still using the Carbons for protection.
From ther it goes into a two channel DSU provided by Ameritech/
SBC. From there it plugs into a chanel bank with a Cat 5 patch cord. another Cat 5 patch cord goes from the bank to a hub and
the sends it out to the Lan field. No data problems.
The voice output from the bank is a 25 pair amphenlo cable to a RJ 21X. We come off the RJ 21X and go into the Panasonic switch. KXTD 1232. There is only 2 Ft. between the RJ and the bank but thre using a 25 Ft. 25 pair cable coiled up.
The channel bank is a Lucent, Connect Reach, com code
108746603 with software SW-D
System Config. is: ALV210A0E2E202Q3
Occasionally I do se a flash on a red LED showing a "framing bit error" greater then 10 to the 5th
I can't find this com code on any of the Lucent sites.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Have the provider check the clocking on the voice side. Some t-1 configurations allow for seperate clocking for both the voice and data channels. Sounds like you might have some slipping going on. A good way to test is put another CSU between the the NUI and the channel bank. An adtran T-1 Ace with display works good because it will show errors, and should not affect the data channels.

Thanks Z-Man. Were in the process of setting up a vender meet and I have a seminar Thur. where
AdTran will be in attendance. I've used their
products before and have never had a problem.
Does anyone know where I can get some Info. on this Connect Reach unit?
Thanks, WaM
