Hello, i have purchased a Keyvoice VM and need to know is there special software you need to communicate to the VM or can you connect via Procomm, Hyperterminal, etc.

If I need software, can anyone tell me where i could pick up a copy.

yes, you need keylink software to connect to a debut.

You might be able to get it off the comdial web page.

Tried the website, nothing there. Do you have a copy i could use. Ill take anything i can get here, need to get this VM up and running.

You only use keylink on sm office lites tigerstars (small gray units) and debuts and that is only for serial access. The dos based units have everything you need right there if you have the tech password. dont know much about the interchange units but I do know no extra software is required

you need keylink or PC anywhere - remote to access via pc. Frod, please don't post passwords, even default passwords on the open forum. If you see this before a VM Mod, please edit it out.

are there any special settings i have to use with PC any? I can make a connection to it but only get a black screen.

Get your baud rate settings correct and use pc anywhere in remote mode, the VM is the host. Using PC anywhere in DOS, from the c:\remote prompt, type, remote, if everything is set right the VM display status screen should come up.

so i have to go to the DOS mode. I can not use it from windows!

The remote directory is for keylink not pc anywhere. sorry about that password new user. Why dont you just hook up a monitor and key board? unless you have a tiger cub or a debut they all have video and keyboard access. If you have a dos based unit with a modem and no monitor and keyboard use pc anywhere ha5 this is the default version used on the sm office and corp office systems. The unit should answer auto unless someone has changed the settings found in the aw directory.I have seen some sm offices and corp offices that had keylink installed but this is not the norm.

I guess the first thing you need to do is help us.

Describe the sytem you have, what does it look like?
Is it windows based or dos based?

Is it up and running? what type of control are you looking for ?

I'm sure I've had the dos version of PC anywhere using remote, work on Debut, SM Office, Corp. Office and the HD version of the DX80 VM, I never tried it on the flash based.
I only started using keylink about 2 years ago, prior to that I used PC anywhere on all of them.

Mark, To quote Chairman Kaga, "If my memory serves me right" Comdial quit loding PC anywhere on Dos machines about the time the PCAnywhere for Windows quit working with the old dos based verison. I had to have both a new version and an older version of PCAnywhere to connect to NT VMs or DOS VMs.
Like you I have never used anything but Keylink to link to a flash based.

Sorry but the remote dir. is for sure keylink.The ha5 dos ver. pc anywhere dir is aw. I work on keyvoice dos based daily at a repair center and have loaded all types of them hundreds of times. If you are dead set on using remote access (I don't know why)You need the right software for the right system. If you will post the serial number of your key I will tell you what you have.(its all about the key) If you have a tiger cub small office lite (gray wall mount no video jack) good luck as they are a POS not a true pc and were nothing but trouble. I don't know alot about the debut I have played with 1 or 2 and they are pretty much the same as all of the dos keyvoice for the programing. If you are using keylink it will search for the right baud rate when you access it(c:remote;\remote enter)

Comdial still loads Pcanywhere on the dos versions. They load rev. 5.0.

They did stop using PcAnywhere when they went to the 2000 based system. They started using Carbon Copy.

That lasted about 6 months. Now they are back to pcanywhere.

You can use the latest version of pcanywhere for remote connection, you lose the file transfer ability to a dos machine after version 8.0.

It still works, you just cant read the file names so you don't know what you are transferring.

WARNING!!! LOADING 8.0 ON NEWER DESKTOP SYSTEMS BLOWS THE DRIVERS ON THE VIDEO AND KEYBOARD. LOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I have good success loading it onto newer laptops with out an issue, but you have to run the compatibility wizard in XP.

The Keylink software is for direct connecting to the comports of the voicemail on the lights and the debuts and the inskins on the DX-80's.

question; when I use my old thinkpad laptop which boots to dos, I choose directory "remote" then type "remote" and I can access a 2 year old debut. The display status screen comes right up. I thought that ( all those years ago) I had loaded pc anywhere which came with a keyvoice voicemail to do this. Am I mistaken? Maybe this "remote" I'm referring to isn't pc anywhere, it's been probably 10 years ago.

Well I remember Keylink came out about 8 or 9 years ago. Before that they were using pcanywhere for direct connect. If memorey serves me right, you had a boot disk you booted too on the voicemail that would repoint the pcanywhere to look at the com port and not the modem when onsite.

Then when you were done, you had to reboot the vmail to get the pcanywhere to repoint back to the modem.

We did not use this, we went 1 step further.

I bought a viking ringdown unit for all the tech's that we would put between our laptop's and the modem in the voicemail. We would use pcanywhere like we were dialing out and the ring down unit would connect us to the voicemail as a remote. This prevented us from having to reset the voicemail everytime we needed to program it.

Damn that was allot of yars ago, well it seems like it anyways.

When we upgraded to PCA 10.0 a couple of years ago we could not connect to the DOS based version of PCA and had to keep an old Windows 95 version loaded to connect to the DOS machines. If you check the compatibility list at Symantec 9.0 was the last that is compatible with DOS 5.0.

I have a copy of PC any 9.0 but can not communicate. I do get a connection but no communications.

It is a Grey Key Voice Debut. Model Voice Brick. Only numbers i can find on it is as follows:

You will notice 9.0 does not give you the ability to read the file names on the dos system if you open the file transfer mode.

The last supported version that I have found that will is 8.0.

If you call Symantic, they will tell you they really dont support different versions talking to each other.

I was told by their tech support. If you have 5.0 you use 5.0 to talk to it, same if you use 8.0 you use 8.0 to talk to it.

Of course we all know thats not true, but that is what their tech told me.

We have installed 10.5 on one of our customer support computers, I will have to go see if it will talk to a dos machine.

I will let you know what I find out.

OH, James you need keylink software to talk to the debut vmail.
