Hi all.

Just having a weird little problem with slackware. When I try to open a web browser from my normal user nothing happens. If I try to open the browser a second time I get a message that tells me the process is already running and that I need to close it or reboot. This is odd becuase I have no other browsers open, havent logged in to root, yet if I log in to root from another tty and startx the browser works fine...

Any ideas?

Thanks guys.

Not a clue. I never use slackware as anything other then a headless server.

What kernel do you recommend for a system experimenting with asterisk?

As far as the "already running process", try the following in a command prompt:

su
<enter passord>
ps uxa

then check to see if you can find and confirm the web browser is listed in the column on the right. If it is then follow over toward the left and find the PID that the programming is running under and issue the following commands:

kill -9 <PID number>
exit
exit

Hope that helps.

I'll give that a whirl but I'm still curious as to why the process would be started without me telling it to. I'll see what happens if I try launching firefox from a terminal.

As always, thanks for the help.

Well, ps uxa didnt list any processes running firefox, and if I try to launch it from a terminal I get no messages of any kind, just blank line in my terminal. I'm stuck.

You probably have what is called a stale PID file. Try searching for firefox.pid and delete it.
