Does anyone have a particular brand of two way radio that they'd suggest?
I'd like the following features:
~ rugged
~ fairly lightweight/small
~ dual base charger and 12v DC charger
~ rechargeable batteries
~ clip-on pocket speaker
~ 8 hour battery life
~ strong signal/reception
~ American made (too much to ask?)
I need just two radios, no more. Cost is not really an issue (up to a point). The radios I have now leave a lot to be desired, and probably cost me 30 minutes a day of productivity.

How about something like this? I have a couple of them and they work well.

Where will these be used? There is a big difference between use outdoors and in a steel building. If it were me I would look at the Motorola commercial stuff like the EX560. 4W VHF and 5W UHF. -Hal

We have some old motorola radios that are dying, and two ICOM radios that are pretty decent. Ours are on the campus radio system and we have two channels that are not on the repeater so we use them around the building.
I assume your use would be on job sites?

Hal and Jeff: yes, I would be using them on-site, and inside of buildings. The radios would need to be able to transmit/receive through at least five floors of concrete slabs.
