hook it to the screw terminals on the right hand side marked MOH (music on hold )

Skip, I already did that. Not working.I am using a portable cd player. I cut the headphones off, and screwed the wires down. Does not work.

Check the output of your device.
adjust the gain of your device to the input of the system.
Place call on hold if you don't have proper test tools and go from there.
Make sure there is no short on cord to system, as you said you cut the cord and re stripped it.
