I have a customer that wanted to consolidate one of there 4 server (IDF)Rooms (a 2 post rack to a wall cabinet)
I do the cabling and phones they have another company that does there networking which has been running fine for years

Part of this project requires replacing there exiting Fiber SFP OR GBIX Cards (HP) into there new switches Dell which the just replaced so they installed Axiom 407-BBEF-AX SFPS and could not get them to work on the exiting fiber 62.2/125 thru out there network then they realized they could use the exiting HP SFP (GBIX) cards and it seems to work

are the SFP 407-BBEF-AX (DELL) 10 Gigabit not compatibly with the 62.5/125 fiber

They are still having some issues with on of the locations
I think it has to do with compatibility issues using a 10GIG device with the exiting fiber 62.5/125 I don't think they have enough or the right equipment

They have been taking a long time on this and seem to be pointing the finger at my exiting fiber 62.5/125 which you would think they knew exited prior to quoting the project

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

JD

First off 62.5/125 is OM1 fiber and it is the lowest rated fiber out there and not recommended for use anymore. OM1 Fiber operates at 1Gb/s is good for up to 300 meters. The Axiom is designed to use OM3 Fiber and operates at 10Gb/s for up to 300 meters.

Sounds like your OM1 fiber is the problem if they want to run at 10Gb/s. The Axiom is designed for 50um fiber at 850nm. They are not compatible

Just my opinion.
Correct!

The fiber is 62.5/125 and it is what they have in place . The project wasn't to reinstall there fiber but to consolidate one of there IDF locations from a 2 post rack to a wall cabinet

Which included removing there exiting fiber connections into there newly installed switches that they had recently upgraded

They ended up using the exiting GBIX cards from the old switches .They just spent hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working

So it appears that there is a compatibility issue

Thanks for response!
