Can some one tell me how to open a telnet session with the IPRC and dump it's message print records as they are different from the Axxess records.

Also, I can't seem to load the web page from the IPRC card. It logs in fine, and then just gets stuck on toc.htm.

I have pulled the power and reset the chassis to no avail.

Any help is appreciated.

Some more information would be helpful.

Can you tell more about the network? Have any changes been made to the addressing scheme (as in different subnets added?)

IP phones will do that if the phones are on a different subnet. Or did this just start out of the blue?

You will not be able to html into the card if you are using IE7. Not supported.

It just started out of the blue. I think maybe the IPRC is bad? I can't browse to it anymore, and I can't browse any of the phones. I'm not using IE7.

Now one of the phones can't get an outside line. It can dial an extension fine, but when pressing 8 or one of the 5 buttons on the left, he gets and unavailable extension.

Are you sure your not using IE7?
Microsoft has been automatically upgrading computers to IE7, you might want to check.
To check open your browser click on help (top menu) and then "About Internet Explorer".

This might be a bit of a stretch, but I had a similar problem with our IP phones at a remote office. Every day, they would go out at about the same time which required rebooting. It turns out that our router was configured to only issue IP addresses for a 24 hour period. After this, the phones would have to be reset so that they could request another IP. We put a new router in (for other reasons) and set it to never let DHCP leases expire. We haven't had a problem since. Is your IPRC connected behind your router?

Nope, on the far side. No NAT. And it's happening on both sides, homes and offices.

yes, I'm sure I'm running IE6. I'm the IT guy and have not allowed IE7 to deploy.

MS is not automatically deploying IE7, just making it a recommended update. Not a critical one.

What version of IPRC card do you have?

Can you get into the system via Session Manager? Is that card the type of card that appears as an IPRC card or a DKSC16 card?

If it is the latter card, it may be that the card is starting to go (that type of card is an older one...). Of course, you have to get site licenses and different models of IP phones if you want to upgrade it to the more recent one.

says 01:06 Internet Protocol Resource Card (32-Device)

So I'm guessing that's the old one.

Can you think of anything I need to look at in Session Manager that would prevent the one guy from getting an outside line?

That sounds like the newer style firmware.
I would try hyperterminal to see if you can get any info from the card.

For outside access: Go to System\Devices and Feature Codes\Stations\Specific station\Associated Extensions\Outgoing Extension. Make this the extension other stations are using.

Telnet to the IPRC IP address, enter the password and select option B from the menu. You'll be at a OLMN> prompt. Type MSGP and press return. Enjoy!

So...while we're on this kick..

All my IP phones have the default Remote Server IP address in the network configuration.

Should this be changed to the actual address of the IPRC card?

10.1.xxx.xxx for local endpoints, and 64.xxx.xxx.xxx for the remote ones?

A 10.x.x.x IP is an internal private network. As is 172.16.x.x and 192.168.x.x
The 64.x.x.x indicates an external address...from your ISP.

I understand that...I built it. My question is, should the remote server address for the phones be set to those addresses instead of the default?

Are you referring to the field under each endpoint in DB Studio or in the endpoint itself?

The endpoints you have (based on the version 1.01S output) will not observe the DB Studio remote server IP field -- that's for previous generation endpoints.

As for the IP to point these to... You posted earlier that you had 8.200. NAT isn't supported at that version so you'd need to have the card in a DMZ, then point ALL endpoints to the public address.

BTW, 1.01S is really old firmware. You might look into getting these updated. Current version is 2.102.

What model phones are you using?
Do you know what version your IPRC is running?
You can find this thru the web interface or Telnet or Hyperterminal in one of the menus.

The endpoints are all 550.8662. Version is 8.1.3, boot version 1.2.3.

IPRC card is in the DMZ.

As stated, the phones connect fine, they just reboot 2-3 times a day.

10[17:21:36] Device 6 timeout warning 10/15 s.
20[17:21:41] Timeout on device 6 after 15 s.

These indicate call control heartbeat failures to respond on TCP5566.
There is a heartbeat (keep alive) signal which is constantly exchanged between the IPRC and endpoint which is why you see traffic even when the phones appear idle. (Sniff the wire, you'll see TCP traffic on 5566) If they volley is interrupted, the first warning is output. If there is no response from the endpoint after 15 seconds you get the second entry above.

Now, why is this happening? The firmware you have is a bit outdated. You could update it but I doubt that's the root problem. The message print only shows public IP's resetting, but you did say office phones reset, too. It doesn't look like all endpoints reset together from the timestamps. So I understand, the card is publically addressed and not NATted, correct? Are all ports open or are you port filtering (like in a non-NATted DMZ)?
I guess what I want to know is what device is between the IPRC and the ISP? Router, firewall or nothing but a switch?

Just a Cisco switch, then to Bell South's switch.

Something that might be worth a try is to put a dumb switch (linksys/netgear/your choice) between your Cisco switch and your router, and put your IPRC ont the dumb switch as well. I've seen ip issues fixed this way before...

You may want to check the board ver on the phones. I had 59 of them in one office that kept resettiing. (for no reason) After I worked with Inter-tel Tech support for 9 months, we found that the rev level on these phones had a problem. Inter-tel shipped us new phones to replace the bad and we never had a reset. the Phones were 550.8662e (you may want to set your QOS on the phones too diffser 184). Good luck.

QoS will not help when the packets traverse the Internet, no matter what you set the ToS value to. Once the packet passes through a non-QoS enabled router, the ToS header will be set to 00000000 which is no QoS. (ToS value 184 translates to DCSP value 46, which is EF, or Expedited Forwarding)

BTW, Inter-Tel has a direct office in SC, it may be worth the money to give them a ring.

As mentioned earlier you want to upgrade the ip endpoints to 2.1.02 which allows for a longer timeout timer.

Things you may want to upgrade:
AXXESS to 8.234 (VM according to what you have)
IPRC V9.0
IP Phones V2.1.02 (tftp)

These versions has been out for some time now and are very stable.

There have been some issues when hitting the '3' botton on 8662 enpoints causing them to reset with revisions AI and earlier.

Verify the correct ports are unNATed to the public IP of the card:
5566 TCP
5567 UDP
5004-5569 UDP

Remember with the new dual mode ip phones, the IPRC can ONLY have v8.2 or v9.0 installed on it. V8.1.3 has numerous issues.

All of these upgrades will only take a few minutes to complete.

Good Luck

I've been having this same issue for the last 6 months. I have 2 IPRC's, one on a DMZ for off-site phones and one on the LAN which my branch office connects to via a MPLS VPN T1 line with 7 phones, I have an IP phone in the office with the IPRC, and i have one user on an IP phone with a Sonicwall to Sonicwall VPN setup via the public internet.

Now that you know the setup:

I've swapped the IPRCs since the office phones are much more important then any off-site phone. This worked for the short term but today it started again. I've verified that the networks are staying up so it's an IPRC issue.

I was going to start with new Firmware on everything, but i don't know where to get it.

Does anyone thing this will help my issue? Any advice where to get the newest firmware. My phones are 8620s and current version is 1.02 i believe.

Thanks!
Andy
