I have a site where the customer bought the system from Amazon and we installed it.

Intercom or outside calls are very choppy on speakerphone but not handset, sounds like a VOIP phone without enough bandwidth.

New control unit shows the same problem, Any Ideas?

Earlier produced X-16 phone shows the same problem.

Are you sure there just isn't background noise and the speaker is turning off because it has voice detection? This happens with my Partner phones if you leave the microphone on with music or a video playing nearby.

I was onsite and made both intercom handset to intercom speakerphone and outside call to intercom speakerphone.

Both were totally choppy just as if you had a VOIP phone but insufficient bandwidth.

I tried with a new phone of earlier manufacture and it was the same.

X-Blue sent out another KSU and it was the identical problem.

There is standard 4 pair wire in short runs, maybe 100 feet at most.

I'm prety good at trouble shooting but this has me baffled.

I've now picked up another whole system X-Blue sent me and will test that this morning at my place before going out there.

X-Blue support on this has been wonderful but they are as stumped as I am on this and I just thought maybe someone had the same problem.

Thanks, Bracha

I'll bet it's not the system and they'll all work fine at your place.

Something in their office or the way they're using them is causing it.

Are you sure you are not using VOIP lines, supplied by someone. I would check that.

That wouldn't apply for the intercom calls...

Finally solved today.

ONE phone was the culprit. I replaced the phone at 301 and the choppy voice was gone from ALL the phones.

To test, I replaced the original phone at 301 and ALL phones were choppy. Intercom as well as outside calls - any speakerphone call.

Once 301 was replaced (no we couldn't be confused, all their phones were platinum and the new phone was black) ALL phones had a working speakerphone.

Previously I had taken a platinum phone out there but swapped it at 303, not 301 and there was no difference, it was garbled.

So if you come up with a system where ALL the speakerphones work very choppy, you have one bad phone somewhere and can quickly narrow it down by unplugging one port at a time.

This was a stumper, even for me, but now we know that one defective X-16 phone can scrw up the whole system. Fortunately that is the first defective X-16 I've seen.

Thanks for your input, Bracha

How many extentions did you have? Were all the phones on the same jack? Thats really a strange one if you had phones failing on different jacks but I could see it if they were all on the same digital port. John

Sounds like a old TIE Mod key. If one phone went bad the whole system did strange things.

As Si would say: Rule #1 unplug all of the phones and test one at a time. laugh

Be aware the x16 is a different creature. Here's a previous quote from Kill Roy:

"If the X16 KSU is plugged in and you remove a telephone, you have 120 seconds, 2 minutes, before the information initialized. However, if you unplug the X16 KSU and then disconnect the phones nothing is erased, as long as you remember to reconnect the telephones before you power up the KSU."

They had a second phone go bad. Ronell at XBlue sent them three new black phones to replace the three platinum phones and so far all is well. Each phone was plugged into it's own jack, 4 phones on four ports.

They got the first phone back and confirmed it was defective.

Sorry I am so late with this, I am moving from the armpit LA to Hemet, much hotter in the summer, but I am renting a 3 bedroom house I hope to buy. With front and back yards it is $750 a month, about $3000 if I was in LA.
