Automatic line selection (function 64) is what controls how the phone will react when you pick up the handset. You can choose a line or intercom first. This can be set differently at each phone.

I'm willing to bet that the automatic line selection is set to a trunk port that is used for paging access on a phone or two. Check all the phones. Other phones might be set for line 3 and line 7. Change it to your liking.

6string is mostly correct. The code is Function 95.

If you have non-display sets the button pressing is different...due to not having the soft keys (F1,F2 and F3).

PM me and I will send you details if you need.

Sounds like a combination of Auto line select and Off-hook Voice Announce...

Other than joking, it is either a hardware or software problem.

If you or your telephone technician have the software, look under User Names and System Speed Dial. If it is a corruption in the database it usually shows up there first.

If it's hardware, then you have to look at swapping boards to isolate which card might be causing the issue.

This problem really needs a Sprint Protege technician on-site who has access to the database and parts.

Chinese characters?

Basically, when the database is corrupted you will see "characters' in fields that are not user changeable. For example:

USER NAME EXTENSION NUMBER
Billy Bob 201

Could appear as:

^S{R NANE EXTE~S`ON NUM* R
Billy Bob 201

That is, you would expect to be able to change the user name and the extension number, But not the verbage USER NAME and EXTENSION NUMBER

Also in fields that should show names and numbers, information is missing.

This usually shows up first in in the catagories User Names and also under Speed Dials Numbers , maybe not always, but from my experience.

This is a sign of a corrupt database...not a hardware problem.

Since you have the data base saved to your laptop. I would do a cold restart. I would then see if you have the same problem while in the default mode. If you do, then it is a hardware problem. If you don't, then it is software.

If it is software, then the next thing I would do is to send the data base back "part" at a time, do not do a "send all". If you have the same problem after this, then you will need to default the system again, then program from scratch.

PS
If there is a DSS/BLF on the phone system, that is your problem.
The only way to solve this problem is to reset the phone and DSS.
This is a known bug and Sprint was never able to resolve this. If you have a DSS post it, there are other things you need to check
