Is there a simple tester to test paging horns, and amps ?

Thanks Gary S.

standard 77 toner will drive an amp, or a single speaker. Try it out on an operational amp, and on an individual speaker that is not connected to anything so you know what to expect.
There is also a meter for testing the power requirement for a run of line operated speakers, and of course I've forgotten what it's called, but they cost $200 and up. Quite useful for finding the 8 ohm speaker that 'Joe' the maintenance guy hooked into the system! Suddenly that run requires WWWAAAYYY too much power!

Impedance Meter = Rather then the DC resistance they use a 1K tone to read the impedance which will give you the wattage requirement for the speaker load.

The quick test for an 25/70v amp is apply tone to input and voltmeter on output. At full power you should have 25/70 volt out. When a load that does not exceed amp wattage is connected the output should stay close to unloaded voltage. A incandescent light bulb makes a good load just use ohms law to figure the wattage.
Example a 120v/150w bulb is about a 50 watt load @ 70v

If it was built after 1980 don't expect it to work right.

Yeah, yeah. I know. My excuse is the last one I bought was 20 years ago! Last places I worked wanted to keep the billing up, at least that's the way it seemed. Finding a bad/wrong type speaker can take 2-5 times as long without that impedance meter!
