Hi,

I am fixing to add a couple 408 cards my Iwatsu ADIX and have a couple of questions.

1) Should I program the additional port before I power down and add the cards, or add the cards, and then change the port size under 1.6 and 1.7, or will download system size do this automatically after I add the new 408's?

2) Years ago someone added an 8-SUBS-3 single line card for a polycom in slot 5 of the 2nd cabinet (49-56 and 65-72) . It does not have the daughter card, so I'm confused why it was programmed with 2 sets of 8 ports in 1.3 (49-56 & 65-72), when the 66 block has 8 ports labeled.

Should I move this card to slot 2 (249-256) and use slot 5 for one of my new 408 cards? Isn't slot 2 a single hwy slot with only 8 ports?

Thanks,

CadJoe

Add the new ports in 1.6 and 1.7 via the programming KT and reset your switch before you add the cards. After you add the cards, connect with the programmer- it will force you to download system size info because it has changed. Then program and upload your new ports and reset your switch again.

The 8SUBS3 was probably programmed ahead of time with all sixteen ports in programming so in the future you wouldn't have to go through all this rigamarole when adding the 8 port daughter board.

Your new 408 cards are not 8 port cards- they're actually two cards. One 8 port digital station card and one trunk card that uses 4 logical ports but occupies 8 physical ports. If you install the 408 card in slot 2, your trunk ports will try to take over slot 3. Best to find a dual highway slot for the 408s You could move the 8SUBS3 to slot 2, but you'll lose the daughter board ports.
I get the impression you've run out of room in your switch...

Thanks for the reply. No I haven't run out of room, only have two 408 cards and 8PSUBS in slots 3,4,and 5.

I just noticed that the 8SUBS was in a dual hwy slot, so I figured slot 2 would be a better spot for it, so move it from Slot 5 (57-64 & 177-184) to slot 2 (249-256).

Thanks for the info on programming 1.6 and 1.7 prior to installing new 408 cards.

So if I'm moving 8SUBS to slot 2, I'm reducing ports by 8, but adding two new 408's, so 1.6 would be +8 instead of 16, and 1.7 would be +8 for 8 co's.

So am I good on these Steps?
1. Modify 1.6 (+8). 1.7 (+8)
2. Power Down. Move 8subs to slot 2, add 408 to slot 5 and 6.
3. Power back up. Download system size.
4. Program 1.3 and 1.4 for new 408 cards.
5. Save and Power down and reset again.
6. Then program extensions in class 10

Sound right?

What is Class 1 - Card Info?? Do I need to program this area, or is it just a reference?

Thanks,

CadJoe

Try to keep things simple...

If you have the room, leave the 8SUBS card alone. It will reduce your aspirin consumption. Also, depending upon your software version and size, slot 2 may not be available to you.

Add 16 station ports and 8 trunk ports to cover your new cards. Having extra ports programmed is never a bad thing.

Program your ports properly and upload and reset. The card info will take care of itself.

ok, database version shows Adix 7.31.

How do I check the size? Do you mean System size? I only have two cabinets, with 72 stations and 24 trunks. System size shows 256.

2nd cabinet has two 408's and 8SUBS in slots 3,4, and 5.

Slot 1, 2, and 6 empty.

Will slot 2 be available with version 7.31?

Thanks,

CadJoe

If you enter programming thru a KT, the screen will display the currently installed system size when you enter your first programming class. Or, you can power down, slide the CPU card out and read the size on the MEMM card. The system size determines whether a particular slot is available, not the software version. With version 7.31, and an MEMM-L daughter board, slot 2 will be available to you. Earlier ADIX versions, specifically ADIX-S versions allowed only 225 ports, so those slots would not have been available to you.

What are the CPU jumpers supposed to be for my CPU card?

I'm having trouble getting back into programming via COM-1 after removing CPU card to verify MEM-L daughter, and moving and reprogramming ports for 8SUBS-3 in slot 2.

After moving 8SUBS-3 to slot 2, I was able to go into programming again, and upload the physical port changes from 49-56 to 249-256. After I reset, I tested all the analog ports, and they all work fine, but now I can't get back into programming.

I have two cabinets:
IX-CMBDL with 7.31 and IX-CPU20/MEM-L p/n:10110
IX-EMBDL

I/O SW - Currently
For 9600 I should have:
1 - ON for 9600
2 - off for 9600
3 - off
4 - off
5 - off
6 - off music
7 - ON music
8 - ON music

CPU SW - Currently
1 - ON
2 - off
3 - ON
4 - off ? should this be ON with MEM-L and 2 cabs?
5 - off
6 - ON
7 - off
8 - ON

What is confusing me is the Iwatsu book doesn't show what jumper 3 & 4 should be with MEM-L and only one extra shelf.

The book shows:
3-ON
4-off with MEM-M + one extra shelf

but nothing about MEM-L with only one extra cabinet, IX-EMBDL.

The book does show:
3-ON
4-ON with MEM-L and TWO EXPML cabinets

I have re-taken out the CPU card, and made sure that the MEM-L board is seated well, and non of the pins are bent.

The only thing I can think is that my thumb might have changed a jumper.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

CadJoe

It gets to 40% and just sits there for about 60 seconds, before it times out and says:

Connection to the system failed. Please check your connections settings, if those appear to be correct, then check your hardware configuration.

If I change the baud rate it fails immediately, so 9600 must be correct.

I changed CPUSW position 4 to ON, and it didn't make a difference.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

CadJoe

Switch position 4 should always be set for ON when installing a MEM-L in an APS system.

You should have left your existing 8SUBS card alone. Even though it doesn't have the daughterboard attached, the card still 'knows' it's a 16 port card. Slot 2 is an 8 port slot, so the card is trying to take the other 8 ports from slot 3. This will play havoc with any card you have in slot 3.

With all the switching of switch position 4, the system may not have configured the programming port on the CPU properly. Using the KT, check the system size- this is what the SYSTEM thinks it's size is. This will either be 256 or 480. Add 2 to that number and check the configuration for that port. (Add 3 if you have an EDVIF card installed). This will tell you just how the programming port on the CPU is configured. Set things to the way they need to be, reset and try to connect.

This is in no way meant to be a smart-assed question, but do you have a vendor?

Ok, I didn't know the 8SUBS thought it was a 16 even w/o daughter, or I wouldn't have put it into slot 7. Would slot 6 have been a better position for it with a 24 ports in hwy 7?

Vendor was never reliable and made lots of mistakes, like installing the system with position 4 off.

Besides, I've been programming different phone systems for 25 years, and have done a faster and better job than vendor, it's not rocket science, just some basic rules of Iwatsu I'm not familiar with yet.

I'm learning though, and I appreciate your help. The system for the last 10 years has always said it was a 256 port size with 72 stations, and 24 trunks, so position 4 obviously was never correct with the MEM-L board.

I didn't know that the serial connection used a physical port as well.

I was able to get into programming just fine from the KT, and the system size now shows 480, however port 482 and 483 both show all zeros.

I don't have any extra serial cards like the SCIF or the EDVIF.

What should 482 be programmed as so I can get back into programming from PC, and should I move the 8SUBS to the 24 port slot 6?

The 8SUBS in port 249-256 is configured as:
020 057 thru 064.

Thanks,

Joe

Ok,

Thru the KT I was able to move the 8SUBS back to slot 10, changing 249 - 256 back to all zeros, and 049-056 and 177-184 back to 020 0xx, and all the analog phones are working just fine along with the polycom.

I still am not able to get into PC programming though, as jumper 3 and 4 are now ON, and the KT programming shows what it should as 480 port system.

482 is all zeros.

What should it be for the serial port?

I found that a serial port is 230, but that was for a card. What should it be, 230 000?

Thanks,

Joe

Class 1.3 should be 230, class 1.4 is all zeroes. If you don't have a SCIF or EDVIF card, what card is showing a serial port? Just wondering- I'm guessing it's port 258...

Save your 24 port slot for something that NEEDS all those ports, like a PRI for example, or another 16 port card.

So 482 should be 230 000 ?
or
230 001 ?

What is the logical number?

We don't have any cards with serial, I had just read in the Tech manual under the Misc Port table, that a serial is 2-3-0 for an SCIF with 2 logical ports, so I was guessing as to what 482 should be.

Thanks again JBean for all your help.

Joe

Use the 230 in Class 1.3, 000 in class 1.4 . The programming port is classified as a miscellaneous port so needs no config in class 1.4

Does this require a reset after programming?

I looked at an old backup from a couple of months ago, and the serial was on 259, not 258. Don't understand why, as I don't have any other cards with serial, unless the 4VML has one.

Thanks bunches for your help JBean.

Ok, reset fixed it.

I'm back in via PC now.

Thanks BIG TIME JBean for leading down the correct path.

I learn more about this system every day. I've never had to program the serial port before, so that one threw me for a loop.

This site rocks.

Thanks again,

Joe
