web design and hosting. You can see samples of my
work at www.vwebworld.com.

My approach is to learn about you, your business,
target market, and the goals for your web presence.
Then use my 30 years of business experience and
10 years of web site experince to create or redesign
a web site. This is a collaborative effort
working with you, so you are comfortable with
your website.

If you have any questions, pleas do not hesitate
to ask. Your online success is my success.

So the goal for us is to stay away from templates right?

I checked the site and I guess that I just need a time to sit down and mow it over because I still have no clue.

I am a phone man not a web designer Jim :p

well .... not necessarily
The word "templates" has been given a bit of a bad rap lately. Templates can be seen being sold on many websites now. How bad would it look, if you purchased or downloaded a template that was being used by 10 other websites?

However....
Professional web designers have been using some kind of templating system for their clients for years. The rationale, is that the client is receiving a designed website that has a consistent look throughout. - from page to page.

There's nothing wrong with using "templates", just make sure it is a unique one. wink

Templates are not bad and can be a good start
or basis for your website. As Cyanide said, if
you use a template, make it unique.

"Good" websites usually have certain things in common.
They have consistant design and navigation through
the whole website. They provide a clear message
and lead the viewer to take action. They convey
trust by providing contact information (name,
address, tel#...etc).

Wrichey looking at your site, IMO you have everything there, I think it just needs some rearranging...like having your logo on the top of each page and additional information at the bottom, which can link to your home page. You can do it on each page or use a template, I would also work on the Titles and descriptions of your web pages (thats one of the biggies, use keywords or keyword phrases)

The https://www.altcomm.com/ has only two web pages that I see. The "default.htm" page and
the "products.htm" page.

To a new visitor to your site it is unclear what the relationship between altcom.com and nbtx.com.
The viewer may not understand what each provides
or who they should contact if they are
interested in obtaining a product or service.

Also, you should make it easy for a viewer to
contact you. Since the viewer is on the
internet, provide a link to your email address
or better yet provide an online form for the viewer
to complete.

Once a user has found your site, make sure they don't leave due to a lack of information...like who you are, where you are, how to contact you, what you do, and even maybe how you do it. The hardest part is getting them to your site and after all that work...you don't want to loose em.

Here's some thoughts about websites and some points
for "success":

Three Factors That Make A Sale

Your website needs to pass some usability standards and is:
  • able to be found
  • easy to use
  • easy to remember
  • free of errors
  • easy to learn

Is having a web site with all the above enough to make a sale? No, there are three critical factors behind a viewer’s decision to make a purchase:
  • Relevance - Does your web site have what the viewer is seeking?
  • Differentiation - What makes you different from the other web sites that offer your product, service, or information? You must communicate this difference clearly, loudly, and often.
  • Trust - The viewer must feel confident that all interactions with you will be completed in the manner you specify.
