HI ALL,
I HAVE A CUSTOMER IN NEED OF AN INEXPENSIVE VM.
I WAS LOOKING AT THE CONTACT DK AS A SOLUTION.
I'VE SEEN QUITE A FEW DEAD CONTACT DK'S AND HAVE HEARD THAT THEY CAN BECOME "BULLET-PROOF" WITH A FLASH? UPGRADE. WOULD THIS BE A GOOD WAY TO GO FOR USE ON A DK40i? THE CUSTOMER HAS VERY BASIC NEEDS(2 OR 3 MENU OPTIONS RINGING PhDN'S AND BASIC
MW LIGHT VM NOTIFICATIONS). I'M AN AMANDA DEALER, BUT, THEY DON'T OFFER ANYTHING THAT INEXPENSIVE!
I'LL ONLY NEED A 2-PORT UNIT.

ALSO, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CONTACT DK AND THE CARD STYLE STRATAGY DK?

TIA,
BILL

The Amanda SOHO isn't any more expensive than the Contact DK or Stratagy. But you'll need a KSTU or RSTU for it or any externally installed voicemail. The Contact DK, IVP8 and Stratagy DK are "inskin" models that do not require an RSTU or KSTU, but will require an available slot in the expansion cabinet of the DK40i. Programming on the Contact and the Stratagy are entirely different from one another. The Stratagy is very similar to the Amanda which is favorable to you as the installer.

PHONEMEISTER,
THANKS FOR THE REPLY!
AS FAR AS THE AMANDA SOHO GOES, THE ADDITIONAL COST OF THE KSTU WAS MAKING THE SOHO A "DEAL-BREAKER", WHICH IS WHY I SAID THAT IT WASN'T "THAT INEXPENSIVE".

WHEN A CONTACT DK "DIES", IT'S USUALLY THE HARD DRIVE CORRECT??
I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A "FLASH UPGRADE". IS THIS CORRECT?
AFTER THE FLASH UPGRADE, DOES THE CONTACT BECOME "BULLET-PROOF"?

TIA,
BILL

I wouldn't consider compact flash cards as bulletproof. It's true that CF cards are not as fragile as a hard disk drive, but they can still go bad. If you are looking for a CF type voicemail, consider the IVP8 over the Contact DK since you are already familiar with the Amanda.

Hello,

I will jump in on the bandwagon here also, I normally run an external VM package but just obtained a Contact DK with some equipment. Upon trying to install it in a DK40, it does some strange things. Does anyone have a copy of the Contact DK manual. I have the stratagy DK manual and possibly that has something to do with my problem....

Does anyone have an image file of the files that are on a STRATAGY VM, I have a customer that took a power hit and the CF card went bad. I have another card and need the software to reload it now. I may have to visit one of my other customers and clone the CF if all else fails.

Any ande all help accepted graciously.

There are hidden files on the card that will not transfer with just clone/image. Toshiba did this to keep what your trying to do from happening. Do you have a backup of the system? If you did you could restore to a new card that had the files. There is a way to change the card size, Toshiba did this for the Flash voicemail to increase from 4 hours of storage upto 44 hours.

I have a backup, but the card is toast. I have a new one to replace it with. My assumption was that I had to load some files on it to have it boot in the Stratagy and then I could do a restore. I am applying standard computer thought process here.

Yes but Toshiba was not. laugh
When we were doing this for the Flash VM there were special things that you had to have to do the upgrade and only certain size CF cards would work. For the Flash a 512 card was the largest you could use, you had to use win98 to setup the cards, and the CF reader had to internal. And before you ask, no XP or 2K or NT wont work.

ok,
Sounds good.. I still have a win 95 and 98 box around. I am going to use a good one that I am borrowing and do an exact copy with some software that I have for HD duplication and start from there. A drive is a drive and we have had good success with duplicating a variety of drives in the past. If this works, i will keep everyone advised

Well, it took a little bit of time and some research but I can now copy the CF card reliably and even expand the message space on it.

And yes this can be done from within both win2k and XP pro. There are some parameters that need to be adhered to when performing this and they work 100%.

Determination will win out over frustration every time if you go at the problem systematically

true but that was a low priority compared to some customers systems.
