The DSX has a lot of "bang for the buck" but there are things that could make it better.

One of the basic functions that the DSX does not have that it's SOHO competitors have was brought up in another thread before. The new release has a lot of nice "fancies" but what about the basics?

At least three automatic timers (day, night, lunch) with a manual override option.

Another nice add would be more analog ports as standard. As there are no hybrid ports, either (on the 40) four analog ports instead of two as the basic configuration (not an add-on card at extra cost) or a 4 port analog card as standard (in the 80). (Fax, Credit Card, SLP analog cordless telephone).

Anyone have any other wishes?

Bill, any thoughts on any chances of anything like this happening soon?

KEN
Ive never monkeyed with the DSX,but your suggestions seem rather solid and practicable.
Are you aware of the DSX Dealer forum ?
If you are, it seems like a good place to post
this information. They have a FEATURE ENHANCEMENTS CATEGORY. I am not trying to pull you away from this site, but was curious if you know about that site?

seems like very little activity at the DSX site

I think its a case of keeping features off the system sold to anyone while the dealer only is more feature rich .

look at the onyx vs ds01 etc.

product. smile

He frequents both of the sites, so it's fair to say that here will work just as well as the DSX forums. laugh

Did I here someone call my name?

Ken,
We hear you about the automatic timers. We would have liked to get into the new software (2.0), but there wasn't enough time to do it right. We'll have it in the next version. (Please don't ask me when.) Regarding the analog ports, we will not be making any changes. We are targeting a higher-end residential market that can afford all digital sets.

Skip,
We do have a distinct market for the DSX. However, other than system size, we do not intentionally limit the feature set. In fact, there are some things this system can do that the dealer products cannot. Expect some really cool stuff in the months and years ahead.

Add a spot to name the DAT tables and Routing boxes,
make it much easier to get a grasp (or refresh your brain) of whats going on when remote pgm.
And have the timers follow the PBX (day, nite, lunch ) etc.
Better cordless, it blows bad JU Ju!

Thanks, Bill.

You are aiming at the upper end residential....out here in my market that is far and few between. Besides, I do not do residential. My bread and butter is the small office (3-8 lines, 3-20 sets). Every office has a fax, cc, and use analog single line cordless sets.

That is why I seldom use the 40, the 80 with the analog card, while not the cheapest way to go, has more possibilities. But that is the better fit in my market.....maybe not the residential.

Keep up the good work, keep the basics coming, and the "flash and glitter" will help the salesmen make their quotas !!!!

Thanks for a good switch / system for the small guy.

I get lots of praise from our small business customers regarding the DSX. It's a nice looking system with a lot of bang for the buck. Having those auto timers would be great addition.
