A new OTIS elevator is being installed and I was installing the dialtone for it. This is off a DMS-100. I am not great with Nortel I'm an Avaya Tech at heart.
I set it up as a ringdown to Base 911 and it called all 5 lines at dispatch. So I thought ok it's not disconnecting correctly so the elevator guy said they would just set up the dialer to do it. I reprogrammed the line to POTS and same thing.
Anyone have any ideas? help The cable pair is clean,If I go offhook on the buttset no problems. Same thing on a second line when I hook it up to the dialer.

Welcome to the board welcome

It sounds to me like you have your ducks lined up correctly since you provided the elevator guy with both options and everything functions correctly with a buttset.

After all, it's up to him to make use of the circuit once he provides you with his dialing requirements.

I realize this doesn't help you much but I truly think the problem is his.

Thats what I was thinking. But as I am more comfortable with Avaya I was not sure if there might be a Nortel option I should add for a dialer.
Every other Elevator phone I have done has been with a Phone (in the old days) and call boxes after that and always on an Avaya Definity. So Nortel with a dialer is new to me.

The problem is with elevator people doing our work. I doubt he even knows what the problem is.

Normally elevator guys defer to us to make the phone work. They usually admit they know little about it other than providing the wiring from the cab to the machine room.

welcome to the BB.

It makes no difference if it is a Nortel or Avaya...slt (pots) is pots. Once it hits the traveler cable at the elevator equipment (your Demarc to the elevator) ....it's his. If you test it at the Demarc with a butt set and it works properly, not loading the E911 trunks, it is his.

You have done the tests. Even with the other dialtone it still loads the E911 trunks does indicate a problem within his unit.

To isolate it further, test it from the point the wiring goes into his dialer inside the cab.

Now then, before I get caught with the statement about pots is pots, let me digress. Pots lines, depending on the switch can either be 24 or 48 volts nominal. In some instances CPE equipment can act up if it doesn't like the line voltage.

Then there can be polarity requirements on some CPE units. Rare but possible. Although it shouldn't make a difference. But who knows for sure?

Good luck and enjoy the BIG State !!!

Thanks all,
:toast:
I'm going to run with that. I told him I thought it was the dialer, I just wanted to make sure as this is holding up the inspection.

Seems the dialer does not like 3 digits and they had it programmed for 911. I had them change the # to the first line in the hunt group. Worked like a charm.

Thanks,
Chandra

I don't think you are allowed to have it dial 911 anyway.

This is the Base E911 system that goes to Military Fire, not the public one. That was part of the issue, we had to have it go to base dispatch. Otherwise we could have let it go to the Elevator dispatch.

It's exactly the opposite here. All we do here is provide the elevator people with dialtone or a dry circuit in the elevator equipment room and they do the rest. In a way it's kind of nice but occasionally we do run across an elevator tech that doesn't truly know what he needs.
