I found one of these on eBay - and I was looking for the software to program it... does this exist?

I hope it was a gift? If you got it for expansion reasons (to go beyond the 818 configuration) be aware that when you go to the next cabinet you'll need to replace your 818 cabinet with a 128. What I mean by cabinet is the box that holds the cards.

1993 technology...that's old. We have quite a few 128 MPD with memory mods in version 5,6 and a few 7. and there not very expensive, send me a pm if you want prices. smile

Yeah that's the one - and I'm still winning - what's the diffrence in the 8/18 and 128? I know 8 co in and 18 int. ext's is what I have but what is the 128 box?

I believe the 128 MPD can run 32 power ports per cabinet(8 lines x 24 stations, stations and lines use a power port) and it can have up to 3 cabinets.

The 818 MPD can only run 8 lines and 18 stations.

Let me ask do you have 16 button phones? SD2 SD1 or BA2? If you do these will not work with SB2. And if you do have the old style you have to make sure they are a SAP or DAP set for them to work. Sorry for your luck. Also the SB2 programmer came on 2 or 3 5.25 floppies. You didnt get the other kit from me  .

That figures..... I've got lots of EX2 (8x24) phones a few SD2 phones (Kids), and 1 BA1 8 button no display phone (mother-in laws bathroom) and a few more EX1's (2 x 24's)....

Oh Well... I bought a backup MPD 8/18 board exactly like the one I have now from sundance and I'm having a few problems with it... it asks me for a pw to program it... I pulled the battery and waited a few minutes and put it back in to see if that would work but it didn't... it just made things worse.... now it says init. please wait...

You have nuked the memory cartridge not a wise thing to just pull the battery you have to default the system.
This is the perfect example for why a (enter what ever you do for a living) should not be doing phone work. Do yourself a favor get a Tech to come to your home get the system setup just the way you want it and then maintain it yourself. The hard part about playing with old parts be it phone parts or car parts is you have to know the qurks of what was happening then and the what ifs of now. A few well spent hours of phone support maybe all you need to solve your issues and the few $$ it cost for the would be better money spent than contuning to buy more parts.

[And keeps rebooting, I'm going to call them back tomorrow....]

There isn't much they can do about it now that you have nuked the memory, you should have called and they may have been able to get you by the password or one of us could have but now that is not an option. You are going to have to start from scratch.

Taking out the battery wipes out the whole card?!! I remember reading in the manual that if the battery was low or dead to replace it. What happens if the working card I haves battery dies, I know it's 10+ years old and probably needs to be replaced soon, when it does die is it going to be permenately inoperable as well?

Thats where you make sure you have a current backup of the system programming and to a complete restore after you default the system.

I do have a backup .cfg file on my hard drive - I just can't get the cabinet to boot up and restore the backup file. Keep in mind this is a backup memroy cartridge that I am working with. I have a seperate memory cartridge that works fine and is running right now. I'm just trying to get the new memory cartridge programed with the same file as the one that I'm running right now.
