Merlin II system with external Merlin Mail. We got into the mail system and got the password. (thanks to this group) Now we need to find out how to make it answer when no one picks up either the main number or an extension.

THANKS T.R.

Are you saying that you want the voice mail to answer the calls that you don't get or what exactly are you trying to ask. I'm confused. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Yes if no one answers the main number or if a call is transfered to an extension and no one answers. I really want it to act like an auto attendant and direct calls if the operator fails to pick up. If you dial directly into the voice mail it will direct your call to the correct extension but if no one picks up it just rings. If you call the main number and no one answers it just rings.
There must be a setting somewhere that directs the voice mail to pickup after so many rings.

THANKS For your help.

You need to assign the VMS ports as Attendant (Automatic)and assign them lines and immediate or delay ring in order to have them answer. You also need to set up all of you user mail boxes before they will answer.Do you have a manual for it? If not get ahold of me, my info is in my profile.

There are some manuals on site. Which Manual would the procedure be in. If I understand what you are saying I assign the ports on the 012 card as auto attendant ports. Do you then assign the main CO Line to the 012 ports and set the ring cycle to immeadate ?

Also this is a square system and not a pooled one. Does that make a differance.

Thanks for all your help. I have not worked on this type of system before. The cleint bought a big wharehouse and this was part of the deal.

The Attendant (AUTO) program is in the Merlin II manual, It also tells what programs go with it. If I am understanding you, you can dial into the VMS and it will answer you now, you just can't get it to answer or use the mailboxes. Am I correct in assuming this/

Yes you are correct. We can dial into the VMS it answers and we can get into the admin mode to set up vm boxes. The VMS is 4 ports pluged into station ports 34,35,36,and 37 on the 012 board. If I go to intercom voice and press 34 Voice mail answers me. But it does not answer if I just call into the system on the main line. Nor does it answer if I transfer a call to another station and no one picks that station up.

Ok you will need to assign Attendant (Auto)
and Group Call Distribution to the 34,35,36,37. Then go ahead and record your greetings and give it a try.

Ok, I think I got it. I will assign stations 34,35,36,37 as the ports on VMS then I assign them all as a GCD and assin the main line to that group with delayed ring.

If I understand correctly what will happen then is, when the main number rings and is not picked up this group will answer and you are in voice mail. The reason for all ports being in the group is to allow all four talk paths.

When the VMS picks up and the caller is directed to say ext 16 and that ext does not pick up how will it get to the voicemail box of that ext.

Sorry to be such a pain.???

I bet this is all covered in the Merlain Mail manual that I do not have.

THANKS T.R.

Your not a pain [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]
Its hard to do because some of the programming is in the TEL manual and some is in the VMS manual.
